Welcome to my little corner of the Internet.

I’ve done many things in my career: teaching, writing, exploring the use of technology.  I’ve won awards for combining all three: in 2007, I was named as an Apple Distinguished Educator in recognition of my work in integrating technology into my teaching.

I have been writing for many years.  In the 1990s, I had articles published on subjects as diverse as the Apollo Moon landing program and who should really be playing for the Stanley Cup.

Since 2006, I have become more actively involved in writing.  I did work for JackFruit Press as a reviewer, content editor, and then as an author.

My first book, Maple Leaf Forever? , was illustrated wonderfully by Michael Wyatt and published by JackFruit Press.  The book tells the history of Confederation as it hasn’t been told before for young readers.  For more details, check out the Maple Leaf Forever? page hereMaple Leaf Forever? received excellent reviews from Quill & Quire and the Canadian Review Of Materials magazine, but is unavailable to purchase, as JackFruit Press is now defunct.  It may be available in your local library; mine has four copies, which the librarians advise me are in high demand when the history of Confederation comes up in Grade 8 History.

My second book, Canada At War: A Graphic History of the Second World War, is being published in May 2012 by Douglas & McIntyre Publishers.  Drawn and coloured by Michael Wyatt, the book describes the history and legacy of the Second World War in a unique graphic format.

I am a member of the Professional Writers Association of Canada.  My profile on can be found here:  Paul Keery.

I am currently working on articles for a number of publishers, both academic and commercial, as well as a third book, Democracy: A User’s Manual. This is a history of democracy for young people.

I am always looking for new work and new challenges.  I would be very happy to hear from you if you are looking for a writer for a new project!

Quote: “The future does not belong to those who are content with today, apathetic towards common problems and their fellow man alike, timid and fearful in the face of bold projects and new ideas.  Rather, it will belong to those who can blend passion, reason and courage in a personal commitment to the great enterprises and ideals of society.”
